Monza, ITA - Honda-mounted Joán Lacorz from Spain continues to lead the World Supersport championship with 77 points after last weekend’s race in Monza. The rider finished ninth on his CBR600RR, but his win in Valencia and two other podium finishes still give him the edge.
World Supersport racing this year is very, very close. Lacorz may still be the leader, but no one dominant rider has emerged. At Monza, the high-scoring Honda rider was Australian Joshua Brooks on the Honda CBR600RR, followed by five other Honda riders in the top ten. Brookes finished second, with Andrew Pitt two spots back in fourth.
Pitt’s race was extraordinarily close—he managed to lead a group of four riders across the line by a slim margin (Robbin Harms; Craig Jones; Massimo Roccoli; and Matthieu Lagrive). Since four of the five were on CBR600RRs, it was a very close finish.
World Superbike moves on to America for the next round, but the Supersport riders will sit that out - their next race is a month from now, at Nürburgring (in Germany) on the 15th of June.
