I love my new 2006 Honda CRF 230F. I went from an XR 80R to a CRF 230F. It has the perfect horsepower to weight ratio and it climbs hils and handles the trails just as well as the 250's and 450's. Even with it stock I had no problem keepin' up with the big dogs.
It is geared perfectly for hill climbs but still allows you to break free and get into the higher RPM range just like you are racing. I felt so comfortable with the seat height and size of the bike.
Upgrades/Accessories: I highly prefer doing simple airbox mods on the crf 230 it gives you more power with out breaking your wallet! I simply took off my seat and pulled out the black rubber plug that lets airflow into the airbox and engine. It doesn't cost any money and takes only a matter of minutes before it is done. Doing this simple airbox mod will let you get a couple more horsepower for free. This can be done to pretty much any bike just look in your airbox and find the plug and remove it if it is possible! Another way to gain more horsepower and lower end performance is to add a new exhaust pipe. I highly suggest purchasing a CHM System P4-r exhaust system.
I would also recommend buying new handlebar grips, Honda has a reputation for long-lasting grips, but they will tear your hands up.
